The Mobcast Server project is based on the Icecast Server codebase, but will be designed to allow for several live tracks to be mixed into a single track.

For example, a generic rock band that consists of four members who are all on the internet wishes to work together but none of them live within proximity. Each one preps a live stream to the Mobcast server, which mixes them to create a final output stream.

The Mobcast project is dedicated to using open formats and protocols, but will allow mp3 as a streaming format in addition to Ogg Vorbis to allow for a wider audience.

Currently the Mobcast Project is in its earliest phase, but should build up steam in the next coming months after the first alpha is released.
